Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Career and technical education (CTE) promotes and supports locally-based middle and high school programs that provide 21st century, academic and technical skills for all students. Whether you plan to go to work straight out of high school or eventually earn a PhD, whether you have a clear career goal or just want to learn something practical and new, you can benefit from CTE.

What does it mean to be career and college ready?

In order for students to succeed, it is important they are prepared for the ever-changing world of work, which means not only college readiness, but career readiness.

You may ask: Where does Career and Technical Education (CTE) fit into an already packed set of expectations and requirements? Why should students who barely have an opportunity to explore the arts, health and fitness, or social studies, be directed to courses in Automotive, Agriculture, Culinary, Biomedical, Compuer Sciences, technology skills, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)? It is because CTE offers a unique opportunity to engage students in an enormous variety of subjects, incorporating academic, creative and technical skills with specific goals. CTE not only prepares students for life after high school, it sparks engagement and excitement. CTE students succeed!
