Learning Communities Teacher Training

We currently have no trainings scheduled. Teacher training opportunities are provided by request. A training opportunity will be made available when at least eight people express interest. Two to four day training opportunities through the Sequim School District help teachers develop skills and learn techniques and activities for building successful learning communities in the classroom.

Dates:
Negotiable

Times:
Typically 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on each training day. An additional 8 hours of reading and activities may be assigned to be logged outside of the sessions for those interested in more clock hours.

Clock Hours
24 to 40 clock hours may be available for a training.

Cost
The minimum cost will be to attempt to laugh at the instructor's jokes. Monetary amounts are negotiated.

Major Topics to Be Covered
Learn and experience how to build a strong learning community within any classroom around the following topics: experiential education, academic risk-taking, challenge by choice, full value contract, group and role development in the classroom. Gain an understanding of the art of facilitation of a group including the use of the adventure wave, group assessment, activity adjustment, activity sequencing, framing (briefing), processing (debriefing), and safety considerations. Design a learning communities sequence that can be used in the classrooms, or on the challenge course, integrating learning communities activities and concepts into current curriculum.

Course Objectives

  • Learnhow to build a strong learning community within any classroom
  • Gain an understanding of the art of facilitation of a group
  • Learn how to design a learning communities sequence integrating learning communities activities and concepts into current curriculum.
  • Be ready for the classroom climate, student engagement and behavior management portions of the TPEP including:
