Special Education

Sequim School District’s Special Education vision is for students to be general education students first. We believe special education is not a “place”. Special education is a set of services. Our mission is to provide students the opportunity to be as independent as possible as they prepare for success in the paths they choose for their future. We may provide programs to meet academic, physical, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of every student. We empower them to develop their maximum potential in their classroom, school and community.

When a child or young adult is determined as eligible for special education by a special education team, the district provides specially designed education to meet the student’s unique needs. The individualized plan is aimed at preparing a student for post high school living.

Special Education is guided by the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). This is a written plan for a student with a disability describing specific areas of need, related services and supports needed.
